Soon I'll post a glop of material that I've been putting down
for years, collecting my views, biases, what have you, regarding
software development. I'm anxious to include them up here,
since it will probably cut down on the questions I have to answer
the same way every time. :)
Until then, here are some other thoughts that I include quite often
and have made themselves a part of me.
Some articles I recommend often
In the Beginning was the Command Line
This is a really great article on the history computing and
of the literacy of those using computers. Powerful stuff. It's
written by Neal Stephenson, the author of Snow Crash,
Cryptonomicon and several other bestseller's list books.
The Programmer's Stone
"Thinking about thinking" is what the author calls it. This
article explores what goes into writing software. What
exactly happens to make thought into applications and
solutions.
Extreme Programming
... Or "How to program and not need a safety net!" Love this!
Python
Home of the Python programming language. Linked here
only because it comes in so many of my convserations on these same
topics.
Some books I'm always recommending
Some of my thoughts about Learning
Web Development
Curriculum Ideas
WSU
Class Outlines and Notes
The
Walden Programmer Analyst Aptitude Test has become a
pretty popular tool for measuring someone's likelihood for
success in the programming world. I'm not sure I agree
with that use, but if you're considering programming as a
career, it's definitely worth a read.
